Escape to a world of peace and tranquillity.
Flights with us offer panoramic views across the fertile Canterbury Plains to the Southern Alps. There is nothing quite so romantic and exciting as floating effortlessly over an ever-changing landscape. We can fly a minimum of two people – large groups.
We can offer groups a personalized experience, unique to your wishes. We fly from a number of different locations in the Canterbury area.
Ballooning Canterbury take extreme precaution when preparing for a balloon flight to ensure a memorable and safe experience. Most hot air balloon launches are made during the cooler hours of the day, at dawn. At this time of day, the winds are typically light making for easier launch and landing of the balloon.
Pre-flight preparation
Before a safe hot air balloon flight can begin, the pilot will check the weather and select a suitable take-off point. The current and forecast weather must have sufficient visibility for the pilot to see and avoid obstructions (little or no fog or low clouds) and sufficiently slow winds to allow take off and landing.
The pilot then chooses a suitable take-off point. It must be large enough to lay out and inflate the envelope and be clear of any obstructions. Finally, the take-off point must be situated where the predicted winds will move the balloon in the direction of suitable landing sites.
