Scopa Caffe Cucina

Location: New Zealand / North Island / Wellington

Scopa is a modern Italian cafe at the heart of the vibrant Cuba St community. Drawing on a long family heritage in hospitality, Scopa is the Bresolin Brothers local joint for hand pushed pizza, fresh made pasta and a Kiwi-Italian welcome!

Remiro Bresolin began Scopa with sons Leonardo and Lorenzo in May 2006, and since his passing in 2007, the brothers have built Scopa into a favourite destination for locals and visitors alike.

Remiro arrived from Venice, Italy in the 60’s and with him came an Italian passion for food, wine, art and life as well as his dream to open “the greatest Italian restaurant”. He was the first to introduce pizza to the innocent public of Wellington and then opened Il Casino in 1972, embodiment of his restaurant dream. Cavaliere Bresolin set pioneering standards in Wellington hospitality – and his famed Il Casino brought world class dining to the new emerging hospitality culture of Wellington.

His passing in 2007 was the end of an era, and the beginning of new dreams for his sons Leonardo and Lorenzo. Born and raised here, they proudly call Wellington home. Growing up in their father’s restaurant, they cut their teeth in the game at a very young age. Both brothers spent time abroad in their late teens, travelling and working around Europe before returning home to further the traditions of their father .

In 2008 they opened the feted Duke Carvell's Swan Lane Emporium, 2012 saw the building of the Courtenay Place kiosk, home to their coffee micro-roastery, Gentlemen's Beans, as well as Tommy Millions, the much loved pizza and gelato take-out.

In 2009 they took on Crazy Horse The Steakhouse and have celebrated NZ produce till late 2014.

With the closure of Crazy Horse came the a new begining, The Bresolin.
They transformed the Edwardian villa at 278 Willis street into a social dining environment. The dining rooms, bar and all weather courtyard each provide different spaces to eat, drink and relax.
