Located in the heart of the Wellington CBD, this is one of the country's most flamboyant buildings in the art deco style. The Prudential Assurance building was designed in 1933 by Australian architectural firm Hennessy and Hennessy. It was one of the first steel-framed structures to be erected in Wellington following the introduction of the new earthquake code.
The Prudential Assurance building is a significant building of the interwar period, and stands near other outstanding 1930s buildings. It makes a considerable contribution to the urban fabric of the central city.
The materials, design and craftsmanship are a legacy of a bygone era and part of what makes 332 The Quay such a unique and special building. Original features reflect the opulence and grandeur of the art deco style. The pink tones, wall scoring, jagged skyline and small windows all contribute to its distinctive appearance, which will be carefully restored to complement the sleek, stylish, modern apartments.
The conversion to apartments was completed in June 2005 to a five-star standard, boasting large living areas with balconies to provide indoor/outdoor flow. These executive apartments offer the best of both worlds – convenience of location and luxurious apartment living.
