There is magic in drinking a wine where it is made. As an awareness of place and seasonality contributes to our wine drinking pleasure, so it is with food. Carrick winery incorporates a cellar door and restaurant,(simply named Carrick), that overlooks the spectacular Bannockburn Inlet. The restaurant was opened in 2002 and has received many accolades It is open daily for lunches and occasionally in the evening for special functions and by arrangement.
Our restaurant menus are created around fresh seasonal local produce and we are fortunate that we have access to some of New Zealand's best game; exceptional fish and shell fish from our cold water southern seas; summer fruit, and local organic vegetables. Our chef uses these ingredients to make simple, healthy but sophisticated food, that, when matched with Carrick wines, provide a unique and authentic dining experience. For a more simple meal try our platters or treat yourself (as the Europeans do) to a special lunchtime dining experience, selecting small and large platters from our menu, spending the afternoon, eating, looking at the view and sharing a bottle of wine with friends.
If you wish to taste Carrick wines our knowledgeable staff will guide you. Current vintages are available and if we open a special wine we share it with our patrons.
A recent innovation for Carrick has been the planting of a large summer vegetable garden in the vines adjacent to the restaurant. We enjoyed borlotti beans, mange tout, zucchini flowers and fantastic new potatoes. We also have free range hens, who live at the bottom of the vineyard and provide fresh free range eggs to the kitchen.
