We took over the management of the Gateway Motel in December 2012, you could say it was a baptism of fire as the motel was full from day one. The motel had and has a great reputation and we were keen on the challenge to carry this on for the new owners Daryl and Karen Martin. Daryl and Karen were ex Dairy Farmers from Darfield and love Picton and the Sounds spending a lot of time here on their boat.

I was born here in Picton and have lived over-seas for about 10 years however returned to Picton in 1998. The hunting, fishing and diving in the area was big draw card for me as I missed this lifestyle while I was away. My working back ground is construction and when I left the industry I had worked my way to a project management position specialising in building wineries. This entailed a huge amount of trust between my client and myself to ensure the jobs were completed on time, within budget and to an excellent standard. I enjoy hunting, fishing and diving along with my son and we take advantage of the area we live in as much as possible regarding this.

My wife Marie also comes from Picton and had a back ground in the shell fish industry. She enjoys travelling and hiking the local tracks as well as shopping, she has become an expert in local wine tasting. We have two children, our son Hunter and our daughter Kennedy. Both children are at the local college and will go on to university over the next 2-3 years. Kennedy is a great little netballer and academic. Hunter is keen on hunting and diving and has been very successful at this.

Discover the wineries with a local wine tour, or we can provide a map for you to do it yourself. You can walk one of the local tracks minutes from our door or sit on the foreshore reading a book while looking out at the Picton harbour. Local cafes and restaurants surround our motel with a diverse range of food to choose from. We are nestled amongst quaint shops, galleries and museums.
