Cabbage Tree

Location: New Zealand / South Island / Invercargill

The original building was known as the Beach Store and was a regular stop off for those travelling to the beach.

This was always a treat for the children where mums and dads often stopped to purchase drinks, sweets and pies.

The well known old Beach Store was mostly demolished in the year 2000 and rebuilt with extensive alterations and add on buildings to achieve the style and décor of today.

All the double hung rimu windows were once a feature of the well known Riverton Hospital and were painstakingly restored.

Six thousand metres of nail ridden rimu sarking was turned into T and G and then turned into expansive ceilings in the dining room and bar area.

Old rimu beams were transformed into those wonderful chunkier than normal doors, power pole cross arms are now holding the bar up plus the church pew seating and outdoor furniture.

The main building is constructed of Central Otago schist and gives the Outpost a stylish vineyard feel.

All colours inside and out reflect the local environment. More than thirteen hundred Natives are planted to recreate what the area would have once been like.

Inside there are four fireplaces which help create a great atmosphere and is a must for all those rainy days.

Oh... the Cabbage Tree, being prolific years ago were locally brewed into a concoction called Chained Lightning.

In December 2006 an indoor barbeque area was added to the function centre. Here the chef will cook your favourite meats in front of you. A great way to cater for large groups.
