We offer boutique style backpackers and whole-house accommodation from which to enjoy our absolute beachfront location at Porpoise Bay in the Curio Bay area. Whether travelling through the beautiful Southern Scenic Route, or as a weekend or longer stay destination, Curio Bay and The Catlins Beach House combine for your perfect Catlins getaway.
With an uninterrupted view of Porpoise Bay and two minutes' drive to the petrified forest of Curio Bay, Catlins Beach House is an ideal base from which to enjoy the local attractions, explore further afield, or just relax and take in the immediate surroundings. Available on a backpacker style bed-by-bed house-share basis, or for private whole-house bookings, let us make your trip to our part of the world as relaxing and enjoyable as possible.
Fully self-contained, Catlins Beach House has three room options, each with quality bedding and towels provided:
Sea View – Queen Room with Private ensuite. $100 per room per night
Queen Room – shared bathroom, $70 per room per night
Bunk Room – sleeps 5 single, shared bathroom, $30 per person per night
Whole house private bookings are also available. $230 per night. Sleeps up to 9 people.
The Catlins Beach House is fully self-contained with oven, microwave and a full complement of kitchenware. There is a washing machine available to guests free of charge. The open plan kitchen/dining/sitting-room area enjoys an uninterrupted view of the entire bay/ The freestanding fire and good supply of firewood ensures a warm welcome even in the midst of winter.
The verandahs are a welcoming spot regardless of the season or weather, as is the lawn where the seagulls sometime jostle each other, making the most of gliding in the coastal breeze. Cap off your stay with a barbeque with one of New Zealand's spectacular wilderness coastal areas as your backdrop.
Steps lead down to a well-worn path through the broom right to the sand and beach for the dabblers and paddlers. It's no secret that this exposed part of New Zealand's southern-most area experiences all types of weather, but a walk on the beach, around Porpoise Bay, either in the brilliant sunshine, or wrapped up warm in more inclement weather will be a memory that lingers with you.
