Milton House

Location: New Zealand / South Island / Dunedin

We (Ali and Richard) welcome you to our luxurious seaside Heritage Bed and Breakfast accommodation in Dunedin. We are located in the beautiful Dunedin seaside suburb of St Clair in Dunedin, New Zealand.

The St Clair Hot Salt Water swimming pool is a 2 minute walk and is open November until Easter. There are several top class cafes and restaurants to visit on the esplanade and you can enjoy the tranquility and views of our popular surfing beach.

Play golf, discover the Penninsula and its wildlife, visit the galleries, museum and Forsyth Barr Stadium. Go by train up the Taieri Gorge, cruise the harbour, sail, surf, bike, and shop in our wonderful Wall Street arcade.

Milton House was built in 1883 by Robert Campbell. Born in 1814 in Scotland, Campbell lived for much of his childhood in Milton on the banks of the River Clyde. He arrived in NZ in 1849 and transported NZ's first bales of wool for export from Dunedin to Port Chalmers in 1850. From 1856 he farmed in South Otago returning to Dunedin to build Milton House for his retirement. It was then left to the Presbyterian Church as a home for widows and spinsters to ‘take sea air’ and convalesce.

The gardens at Milton House are full of roses and scented plants and there are many outdoor areas that are perfect for relaxing, there are plenty of mature trees and calm corners to retreat into with a wine and a book!

Food is Ali's passion, so, a gastronomic delight greets you for breakfast by the open fire in the dining room, with seasonal, local, and homemade produce being served. Fresh and bottled fruits, yoghurt, homemade muesli, cereals, homemade bread and muffins, lovingly made preserves, and free range eggs used in omeletes, french toast with your cooked breakfast choice. Menus are changed daily.
