According to the Legend...
Kaldi a goat herder from Ethiopia, discovered coffee when he noticed his goats would become hyperactive and a bit woobly after eating the red berries of the shiny, dark leafed shrub. Kaldi decided to try some himself and soon discovered the exhilarating effects of coffee.
Kaldi then took the "magic" berries to a local moastery where the monks believing them to be a work of the devil, threw them into the fire. This released the amazing aroma of the coffee so the berries were hastily rescued from the flames.
The monks soon learned how to roast and make coffee. They then considered coffee to be a gift from God as it helped them stay awake during prayers. Soon the use of coffee spread from monastery to monastery through out Ethiopia, and from there to the rest of the world.
