Dunedin's Fish and Chip shop with a twist. Locally owned and operated by a fishing family, who have been in the fishing industry for years. Mike (or dad) has been fishing on and off out of Port Chalmers since 1978. Having also done a prawn fishing stint in the Torres Straights above Australia for six years with wife Julie and a year with their daughter Nikki before heading back to the homeland of the south, to continue fishing from Port Chalmers.

An accident in 2011 caused Mike to be forced out of the hard fishing lifestyle and into a new venture, bringing Fish Hook to the main street of Dunedin giving locals and tourists a new and fresh taste to the classic kiwi meal, Fish and Chips.

Fish Hook and the Trewern family are able to provide you with the freshest quality seafood in town, as the fish comes directly off their fishing vessel, the Aquarius.

Caught in the local waters off the southern coast, the fish is well looked after from the moment it is caught and hauled on deck. Iced down immediately and chilled until unload. The Fish Hook truck then rushes the fresh catch off to be filleted. Ensuring the catch arrives in store not long after it has arrived on shore.

In store the fish is kept in prime conditions until you pick your species and it is cooked to your specific order, whether you want it beer battered, panko crumbed or grilled (for that healthier option).

The Fish Hook store in the heart of the city creates a different atmosphere than your usual local fish and chip shop. Dunedin's first fish and chippy where you can eat in. And the first to provide you with none other than southern speights on tap, a fine range of bottled beers, wines and non alcoholic beverages to enjoy with your meal or while you wait.
