Lindsay and Bev Purvis welcome you to Merino Country Café and Gifts. We are a family-owned company with 20 years’ experience in Omarama and are conveniently located in the centre of town, opposite the Challenge petrol station. All our products are New Zealand-made, using only local raw materials and designs, and we offer a worldwide postage delivery service.

If you’re planning on staying in Omarama we are close to all the motels and hotels, or if you’re travelling between Christchurch and Queenstown, Omarama is the ideal location to stop and take a break. Our café and gift shop offers delicious homemade food and the best coffee and tea to be found, as well as an extensive range of gifts where you can browse to your heart’s content.

Omarama is an historic township surrounded by an outdoor paradise. It’s a great holiday destination whether you simply want to relax in town or you’d prefer to get out and enjoy the countryside. With nearby mountains, pristine lakes and streams, there is always plenty to see and do. We are only one hour’s drive from Aoraki Mt Cook and half an hour’s drive to Lake Benmore. Take in some sightseeing and enjoy the local fishing, tramping and bird-watching. Only 1km away is the airfield where gliding and sightseeing trips are popular.

The Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail passes in front of our shop in Omarama and we welcome you to stop off for lunch, coffee or a browse of our gift selection.

Our café is open from 8am to 5.30pm in the summer and from 8.30am to 5pm in the winter.
