Established in 1959, Ed Hopper is one of the oldest (if not the oldest) bookstores in Christchurch.

The bookstore has undergone a dramatic transformation over the last few years and now includes a fully licensed café and bar. We are open 7 days and are here late on Thursday, Friday & Saturday nights. We often have live light Jazz music for you to enjoy in the evenings.

Our day time menu includes a wide selection of sandwiches, scones, savouries and of course a huge array of the sweet stuff (including a good selection of macarons). So, whether it’s a quick bite to eat for lunch or an afternoon coffee meeting, come in and soak up the atmosphere, good food and great coffee.

In the evenings, the menu changes to light fare of a more refined style. French themed and delicious is about all we have to say. The menu changes slightly depending on the popularity of certain dishes, so we suggest the best thing to do is to come down and check it out. We assure you that you will not be disappointed.
