The Abel Tasman Coast Track is a 60 kilometres long walking track within the Abel Tasman National Park in New Zealand. It extends from Marahau in the south to Wainui in the north, with many side tracks.
This track is the perfect way to explore the beauty of Nelson's Abel Tasman National Park. Because of its easy accessiblity for boats, you have the option to walk a portion of the trail for a day or the entire length over 3-5 days. Or, if you would prefer paddle power, take a kayak tour. The walk is not a circuit track, so some form of transport needs to be organised at either end. Shuttles and water taxis are easy to book in advance.
This gentle, family-friendly Great Walk showcases the best that
the park has to offer. Marvel at naturally-sculptured granite cliffs and crystal-clear waters. Plan an adventure that suits your ability and schedule. You can hike the whole track, take a water taxi or kayak between different locations at any time of the year.
Day 1: Marahau to Anchorage
4 hours, 12.4km
You’ll begin your journey as you cross the estuary over the Marahau causeway, and follow the track, first through open country, then lush beech forest with large kānuka trees. The track eventually turns inland,
winding in and out of several little gullies before emerging to a view of the beautiful Anchorage Bay. Here you’ll descend to Anchorage Hut and Campsite.
